MAINE

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Maine: As Maine’s affiliate with the national ACLU, they are active in the courts, the legislature, and the public sphere to defend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and to extend their promises to all Mainers. Their priority issues include criminal justice reform, reproductive freedom, racial justice, immigrants' rights, LGBTQ rights, women's rights, voting rights, freedom of expression, freedom of speech and religion, and privacy.

Equality Maine: Their mission is to protect and advance full equality for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Mainers by creating an inclusive and intersectional movement through political action, community building, education, engagement and collaboration. 

Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP): As Maine’s only state-wide legal services organization, ILAP helps immigrants improve their legal status and advocates for more just and humane laws and policies. League of Women Voters of Maine: A nonpartisan, grassroots political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Sign up for their weekly "Action Under the Dome" email alert about upcoming votes and hearings in Augusta.

Maine Conservation Alliance: This group convenes and facilitates Maine’s Environmental Priorities Coalition (EPC), an inclusive statewide alliance of 39 conservation, climate action, and public health organizations. Each year they collectively identify a slate of policy priorities to act on the climate crisis; further environmental justice; protect land, water, and wildlife; and cultivate healthy Maine communities.

Maine Democratic Party: The MDP is working to elect Democratic leaders from the school board to the Blaine House. They focus on building our state party up from the grassroots and investing in local action. Their site offers information about running for office, voting, volunteering, and more.

Maine Gun Safety Coalition: This nonprofit protects our communities by collaborating with their partners including law enforcement, healthcare providers, gun owners, and fellow citizens to provide education, programs, and advocacy.

Maine Legislature: The official site for our statehouse. Search for bills by topic or number, view the calendar to find hearings and votes, connect directly with representatives and senators.

Maine People’s Alliance: MPA works to form community with people from all walks of life to build power, inspire new leaders, heal divisions—particularly across lines of race—and win campaigns that change what is politically possible. It is the state's largest community action organization.

Maine Women’s Lobby: The voice of Maine women advocating on the issues affecting the lives of Maine women and girls.

Moms Demand Action: A grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence, with chapters in every state. Follow their MDA Maine Facebook page for activities around us.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund:  The political action arm of Planned Parenthood, tracking issues related to women's health, providing links for immediate action, and connecting you to current events in Maine and every state.

Activate Maine: They aim to provide a statewide hub for activism and community. “Actions are happening all over Maine — we make it easy to find events and get involved. One calendar. One community. No more digging for details. No algorithms. Just real Mainers organizing for change.” Check out their helpful calendar of events.

Maine Matters: Maine Matters is a round-up of resistance events and news, along with political updates for the week in Maine posted free on Substack. It includes a running list of statewide protests and activist resources.

Maine Morning Star: Maine Morning Star is an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan news site covering state policy and politics — and how they impact the lives of Maine’s people. Sign up for their free daily newsletter “Top of the Morning” for curated stories, insightful opinions, and analysis of the issues impacting the people of Maine.

NATIONAL

5 Calls: 5 Calls makes it easy for you to reach your members of Congress and make your voice heard. They research issues, write scripts that clearly articulate a progressive position, figure out the most influential decision-makers, and collect phone numbers for their offices. All you have to do is call.

ACLU:  For almost 100 years, the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) has worked to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States.

Citizen's Climate Lobby: CCL empowers everyday people to work together on climate change solutions. Supporters are organized in more than 400 local chapters across the United States, including Maine.

Democracy Forward: Democracy Forward is a national legal organization that advances democracy and social progress through litigation, policy and public education, and regulatory engagement.

Everytown for Gun Safety: Gun violence touches every town in America. Now, nearly 10 million mayors, moms, teachers, survivors, gun owners, students, and everyday Americans have come together to make their own communities safer. Everytown starts with you, and it starts in your neighborhood.

Indivisible: The Indivisible Project's mission is to cultivate a grassroots movement across thousands of local Indivisible groups to elect progressive leaders, realize bold progressive policies, rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.  Find affiliated groups throughout Maine.

MoveOn:  MoveOn is an independent, progressive, digitally connected organizing group. Whether it's supporting a candidate, fighting to pass legislation, or working to change our culture, MoveOn members are committed to an inclusive and progressive future.

Protect Democracy: Protect Democracy is a nonprofit group dedicated to defeating the authoritarian threat, building more resilient democratic institutions, and protecting our freedom and liberal democracy. Their experts and advocates use litigation, legislative and communications strategies, technology, research, and analysis to stand up for free and fair elections, the rule of law, fact-based debate, and a better democracy for future generations.
